Client Stories – The Grove
A custom Home Experience Worth Repeating
After completing their fifth custom home, their first with Legend Homes in The Grove, Kelli and Harry are already building again. Their story shows what happens when the right team, the right process, and the right level of communication come together.
“The difference with Legend Homes is the people. It’s the team behind that name. They are a family. They will fold you in and they will build the custom home of your dreams.”
-Kelli Schmank, The Grove
Why Kelli & Harry Chose Legend Homes
Watch the Story in Their Own Words
Kelli and Harry had built custom homes before, so they understood how much the right builder can shape the entire experience. After their first conversation with Legend, the choice felt clear.
Kelli had built custom homes before. That experience made her especially aware of what was different with Legend: the planning happened earlier, the communication was clearer, and the process felt more collaborative from the very beginning.
Background
A Home Designed Around the Way They Live
Kelli and Harry knew what they wanted: open living spaces, large windows, natural light, and a layout that kept them connected – just the two of them, always in the same room. Those features can be hard to find in an existing home. Building custom made them possible.
They came to The Grove looking for the right community and the right lot. After identifying a site they loved, Kelli called Legend Homes. Danny answered. Within five minutes, Andy Ferguson called her back. After one Zoom call with the Legend team, Kelli and Harry looked at each other and knew this was the builder they wanted to work with.
This was their fifth custom home. They had built before. They knew the difference between a competent process and a great one.

The Story in Three Parts
01 – The People Made the Decision
From the first phone call, the responsiveness was unmatched. After one Zoom call with the team, elli and Harry were certain. The team behind Legend was the reason to move forward – and it has remained that way through two builds.
02 – The Process Changed Everything
Kelli had built four custom homes before and was used to managing every detail herself. With Legend, every selection was finalized in a look book before construction began. The relief, in her own words, was amazing.
03 – The Experience Was Worth Repeating
After walking through a Legend home at the Parade of Homes in Rosebrooke, Kelli said it felt like “a warm hug.” Before she and Harry had even left the parking lot, they were texting Andy. Legend 2.0 is now under construction.
Pre-Construction
The Process That Changed Everything
Before Legend, Kelli was the one on site every day. She kept spreadsheets, tracked decisions, and stayed ahead of whatever the builder needed next. It was what building had always required of her.
With Legend, the major decisions were brought forward – before ground was broken. Every selection was documented and organized into a look book that kept the entire team aligned. When construction began, it began with clarity on both sides.

“What surprised me most was how effective that pre-construction process is. I was so used to making decisions on the fly as I needed them. Having everything decided prior to construction, I did not realize how important that was.”
– Kelli Schmank
01
The Full Team, From the Start
Client, builder, architect, designer, and operations leadership are aligned before plans are finalized. The process begins with goals, budget, lifestyle, lot conditions, and the way the client wants the home to live.
02
The Look Book
Selections, finishes, materials, and design decisions are organized into a shared reference. The look book gives the client and the Legend team a single source of truth before construction begins.
03
Pricing Clarity Before Construction
By the time construction begins, the major selections, specifications, and cost expectations have been carefully documented. That level of planning gives clients greater confidence in what is being built, what it will cost, and how the process will move forward.
04
Details Resolved on Paper
For Kelli and Harry’s second Legend home, the team worked through floor plan changes before construction began. Rooms were shifted, layouts were reconsidered, and mechanical and design details were reviewed before anything was built.
“Their process, they have it down to a science. And the relief that that takes off of the homeowner is amazing.”
– Kelli Schmank, The Grove
Decision-Making & Visual Aids
See It Before It’s Built
Custom home decisions are not always easy to picture from a plan or a material sample. When a combination of tile, lighting, or layout changes was difficult to visualize, Legend produced a rendering – often within 24 hours. Not as an afterthought. As a standard part of how the team helps clients feel confident in the choices that shape the final home.
On her second build, Kelli leaned on interior renderings even more heavily after rooms were repositioned to optimize lot orientation and pool placement. She found them essential to moving forward with confidence.
“What surprised me most was how effective that pre-construction process is. I was so used to making decisions on the fly as I needed them. Having everything decided prior to construction, I did not realize how important that was.”

Communication During Construction
Informed Throughout. Wherever You Are.
Once construction began, Kelli did not feel the need to visit the site every day. Not because she was less invested – she cared deeply about every detail. But because Legend’s communication made it unnecessary.
Three times a week: progress photos and a note from her project manager covering what had happened and what was coming next. She was a short drive from the build – but the experience would have been the same from across the country.
Value Engineering
Smart Guidance Without Sacrificing the Design
Kelli appreciated that Legend did not simply say yes to every idea. Other builders had done that – agreeing to whatever was requested, without attaching a cost or suggesting an alternative. That kind of open-ended approval can feel accommodating. In practice, it leaves the client without the information they need to make a real decision.
With Legend, value engineering was part of the process from the beginning. For the second build, the team came prepared – already knowing Kelli and Harry would want to understand what could be refined without losing the design intent, the craftsmanship, or the aesthetic that drew them to the Parade home.
In Kelli’s Words
“Usually it’s me talking to a builder and they’re like, ‘Whatever you want, we can do for you.’ It was really nice to have that upfront, with a value attached.”
“They came in with our second build already ready for us to ask that question. They had a list: here are things that are great, but they’re not must-haves. Here are options to get that cost down without losing what you loved about this home.”

The Clearest Sign of Trust
Building Again.
Legend 2.0.
One of the strongest parts of Kelli and Harry’s story is not the finished homes – it is the decision to build another one. After walking through a Legend home at the Parade of Homes in Rosebrook, Kelli said it felt like “a warm hug.” She and Harry looked at each other. She already knew.
Before they had left the parking lot, they were texting Andy to say they were ready. Their second Legend home is now under construction in The Grove – adapted from the Parade home floor plan and redesigned around their new lot, their lifestyle, and everything they learned from the first build.

What Made The Difference
Six Things That Stood Apart
Before plans are finalized and before ground is broken, the Legend team takes time to understand how each client wants to live, what matters most, and where thoughtful planning can create the greatest value.
The People
From the first phone call, the team was responsive and fully engaged. Andy called back within minutes, and every interaction confirmed that this was the right team.
The Planning
Pre-construction brought the major decisions forward before construction began. The look book kept everyone aligned. Construction started with clarity, not open questions.
The Visual Tools
Renderings and look books helped Kelli see how design decisions would come together before anything was permanent, including finishes, lighting, layout changes, and interior spaces.
The Communication
Progress photos and project manager notes kept Kelli informed throughout construction. Whether nearby or across the country, clients always know what is happening and what comes next.
The Guidance
Legend attached values to ideas and offered alternatives, not to limit the design, but to help clients invest where it mattered most and make decisions they would be proud of long-term.
The Relationship
Kelli and Harry did not just build a home with Legend. They built a relationship strong enough to bring them back. Legend 2.0 says more than any review ever could.
A Custom Home Should Feel Personal
That is Why They Are Building Again
Kelli and Harry’s story reflects what Legend Homes believes about luxury homebuilding: the experience should feel as thoughtful as the home itself- organized without feeling right, collaborative without feeling overwhelming, personal without losing momentum.
Their home in The Grove is filled with the features they love most. But what brought them back was everything that happened before it: the process, the people, and the expereince of building with a team that listened from the very first phone call.
“Building a custom home should be fun. It’s exciting, and you will get all of that with Legend Homes.”
